Tips to make working from home more productive

With working from home and hybrid working becoming more popular, we thought we would give you some tips and tricks on how to make your day more productive while working from home.

Establish a routine

Create a morning routine that you stick to everyday.  Try to make this as close as you would if you were getting up and going into the office.  Also make sure to set a schedule and keep it consistent.  Make sure your schedule includes breaks and meal times where you take time away from your desk/ home work set up.  At the end of the day make sure to Log off and transition to personal time with a specific routine to signal the end of your work day.

Have a designated workspace

Make it a priority to have a designated workspace, even if it is just in the corner of a room as this can help you focus and separate work from personal life.   Also make sure to minimise distractions by keeping your workspace clean and organized, and away from distractions and noise. 

Prioritise and manage time

Set yourself daily goals, create a to-do list and prioritise tasks, making sure to focus on what’s most important.  Ensure you are allocating specific time slots for different tasks and stick to them.  While you have allotted time for certain tasks, try not to multitask and always focus on one task at a time to avoid decreased efficiency.

Take breaks

Incorporate short breaks throughout the workday to recharge and avoid burnout. Step away from your workspace for fresh air and exercise throughout the day and stay active by getting up and moving around regularly. 

Stay connected and motivated

Stay in contact with your team through virtual meetings and informal chats. This helps to stay connected with your colleagues who are also working from home and those in the office.  A good way to stay motivated while working from home is by acknowledging your accomplishments and celebrating your progress.
